Wine investment is a lot more complicated than knowing your Medoc from your Languedoc or your Lafite from your Latour (although that would be a start). Buying early has generally proved the most successful strategy although its logical extreme - buying en primeur - is usually classified as highly speculative.
Investing in fine wines does require a considerable amount of bottle and it may be sobering to reflect that most cases do not appreciate in price. Moreover, we acknowledge that there may be a strong temptation to exploit the asset's inherent liquidity as an exit route long before maturity.
