There are ethical issues involving the precious stone industry which, although they are beyond the scope of this brief commentary, demand not to be ignored. And there are financial issues: when the supply and demand ratio can be controlled by one party or by multiple parties acting together, the intelligent investor looks elsewhere.
Having said that, precious stones are just so beautiful, and our relationship with our emerald partners in Ecuador is something which we continue to value most highly.
